Cade's First Laser Treatment

Today we took Cade in for his first laser treatment on his port wine stain. He (and Keith and I) did great! Even the doctors said he did really well.

The laser was almost like a pen-type wand. It would blow a puff of cold air on his skin and then the laser part. It basically created circle like laser dots. The doctor did a total of 32 of these pulses.

We all had to wear glasses in the room. And the nurse covered Cade's eyes with folded over gauze. I thought for sure that Cade would be bothered by the gauze, but he just laid there.

Keith and I were at his side and were able to hold his arms and feet and stroke and talk to him. The whole procedure was really quick.

Before the appointment, we had put a prescription cream on his face to numb the areas that were treated. He really didn't start to cry until it got to just around his lip and lower cheek (he had pulled off the cream covering on those parts). Of course, when we were done, he did get the doctor and nurse a dirty look. But then it was back to happy Cade :)

We are so thankful the procedure went well. As I explained to family, Cade was very peaceful - which was an answer to prayer as we had prayed for peace during the treatment.

We go back in 8 weeks. In the meantime, it is putting Vaseline on his face and just watching to see what it does.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers today! They really meant a lot.
