so i just updated my medical mileage from the past two weeks. And wow... we are racking up the medical mileage this year. Last year, we had 748.56 miles related to medical mileage. So far this year, we have had 711.56 medical-related miles. Last year's rate was 20 cents a mile. This year's rate is 19 cents a mile. At least it will make some sort of dent into 2008 taxes!
if you haven't tracked your medical mileage in the past, it is really simple to set something up. I use excel and keep track of dates, reasons, locations, and round-trip mileage. Then I have a paper file with Mapquest directions from my house to each medical location we use. At the end of the year, I just have to print out my excel file, which adds each row for an overall total, and put it in the pile for the accountant.
