Watching My Boys Learn and Grow

Keith and I were talking the other day about watching our boys learn things. It is so funny the different stages Kory and Cade are at.

I'm watching Cade learn where his eyes are, his ears, his head, his nose, his hair. We're still working on the toes and tongue. If you ask him where his tongue is, he grabs at his toes and says tongue. I watch him come up to one of us and say "blue's clues. Downstairs." And off we go to start a blues clues video for him.

Kory, on the other hand, is learning how to appreciate history. We went with a friend one day to a local park with monuments. "Mommy, can you read me this one?" We'd walk by a statue, "Mommy, who is this guy and what did he do?" The cutest was "Mommy, why is there a statue only for him and not all the army guys?"

As I watched him absorb the history and explore around the historical houses, I thought of my dad. He can get lost in a museum (and I think he did a couple times while we patiently waited for him). But I love seeing that grow in Kory.

Then there is Cade learning about "chocolate" and how it can be combined with milk and be very yummy. Yesterday, he walked to the fridge, opened the door, grabbed the chocolate syrup container and said "chocolate." I then asked him where his sippy cup was. His response after looking around the room. "Room."

I told him if he went up to his room and brought back his sippy cup, I would make him chocolate milk. He was off running and back in a few seconds with his sippy cup asking for "chocolate." I love watching him put words and thoughts together.

Then back to Kory. Yesterday we were working on his art project of painting sunflowers. He said to me "Mommy, when I grow up I want to paint beautiful pictures. I want to paint pictures of you and daddy when you first met and put a great big heart on it." It wasn't so much his words but the tone. It was that dreaming tone of someday I want to....

It's watching these little moments of my life that make me treasure the moments I have with my boys.
