Well today kory and I tried the story hour at the local library. I was not impressed. I guess I remember the lady who made our summer story hours so much fun growing up.
The first thing we did was learn "library rules" from the shelf elf book that she read. Then we sang some songs about how to find library books based on color. When she got to the next book, kory was getting restless and we went out of the room.
In talking to him, he was pretty clear that he was not having fun. And the whole entire time he was biting down his finger nails (which is a habit we have been trying to break him of).We went back in when she got ready to read the next book, but Kory didn't last long before he was back out the door. Of course, we went back in for the craft which was putting together and coloring a paper shelf elf of our own.
After that, we hung out in the kid's section of the library where he picked out some books and put puzzles together (which we have done before in that library).
I know some people would say I should force him to try story hour again but I'm not so sure it is for him or his personality or his energy level. If he didn't like being read to at home, I'd be concerned. We have gone to the library a couple times by ourselves and he will sit and look at books and play with the puzzles.
I think we'll stick to going to the library on our own and maybe looking into a more active activity for him.
Although tonight at supper, we were talking about his story time, and when I mentioned we learned "library rules" he said, "like don't drink your milk around your library books." Which was actually one of the rules she mentioned from the book. So at least he listened :)
