Jewelry and Insurance Riders

I am all for putting expensive jewelry on insurance riders. For a low cost, my engagement ring is on a rider of our home owners insurance. I think it costs me $30 a year. But if anything happens to my ring, I can file a claim. I don't have to take my ring in for regular inspections, like some jewerly stores require to keep a warranty in good standing.

All that is required is to ask for your jewerly to be added to a rider. And you have to supply an appraisal of the jewelry.

Keith bought me diamond earrings for Christmas. The other day I called to see about adding them to my rider.

While talking to my insurance agent, I found that the jewelry stores can provide you with a written appraisal of the jewelry you purchased at their location. At no extra cost.

So I called the jewelry store where Keith bought the earrings. I explained about the rider, the appraisal, etc. Anyway, I found out that they have a form they can fill out based on the purchase information.

They were able to pull up the information from Keith's contact information. They are filling out the form and putting it in the mail for me. At no charge.

So just had to pass this info along. Make sure you ask about appraisal information if you want to add jewelry as a rider on your insurance.
